Hello, I have three Drakes that are 1 yr old this week. I have had them since they were hatched and they have grown up together. Up until about a week ago they were getting along fine. I have a web camera in their pen and house and noticed my rouen drake holding down my saxony while my khaki campbell was pecking at them both. There has been times where I have seen My saxony return the favor and grab a hold of my rouen, not letting go! I recently noticed an area of feathers missing from the front of my saxony's neck. No redness or wounds. Funny thing is that I can not see any feathers lying around. This fighting seems to be happening less frequently the last few days, but they still go at it at times. I have tried separating the saxony from the other two (as he seems to be the target) but then the rouen and khaki campbell just go after each other. I know it is that time of year, and the fact that I have no hens probably doesn't help. My enclosed pen is 8x10 feet (not including their house) which has an entrance from the enclosed pen and is 4x4 feet wide. I consider this plenty of room for three ducks. Is it just spring fever? we have had a terribly cold, snowy winter here in the northeast, so they have been stuck in their pen a lot. They continue to be friendly to my wife and I, but not so much with each other. I hate to have to re-home any of them. They still sleep together, although a lot of the time, the saxony is in his own corner. I have tried to attached a video, but am unable to. Other than separating them, is there anything else I can do? Like I said, there are no wounds and nobody seems to be hurt, but I don't want it to get to that point. Thanks!!

Yes extremely high hormones since they are young and look at them bragging lil stinkers. Can they be outside at all? Getting them out of that pen may help some but what your seeing is just hormones out of control and it always seems one gets the raw end of the deal and they may even mate with him or they may take turns on each other. About the only thing you can do is bring in females but boy would that make things worse you'd have to have 3 or more females for each drake and then the drakes would probably be fighting over the females so that isn't a good solution. You could rehome one then the other 2 would just have a go at each other. Or you can just put up with their craziness till they are about 6 yrs old and then things may calm down some. lol

I think the only thing that may help[some] is getting them out where they can mess around and forage and get some of that pent up aggression out of them. This may calm it down some but these guys are wired tight right now and have no way to release it except with each other so get them out put them to work wear them out so when they go back into their run the are too exhausted to go after each other.

They are beautiful boys .:welcome

Thanks for your reply. We do usually leave them out for quite a while each day, as the weather allows, the current problem we have, is that they are starting to wander into neighbors yards. They haven’t done this in the past. We are in the process of fencing in our yard to rectify this. In the meantime we have to keep a close eye on them. They are beautiful, aren’t they?
