My tom sweet grass got beat up by our wild toms

Well Gobbles thinks he is hot stuff strutting around in the yard. He is constantly puffing up around all the wild hen turkeys that stop by. Well apparently he messed with one of the wrong hens and he got beat up pretty badly. He was all bloody and disheveled looking. His pride is hurt and he isn't his usually spunky self. I feel bad for him.

Don't you just LLLLOVE breeding season! He will recover, but I did lose my dominant Tom this past week. Was beat up so badly by a group of jakes he bled to death. First time in 10 years of raising turkeys that I had a loss due to fighting. They usually work out their differences and that's that. But they must have hit an artery and he hemoraged. Felt bad to find him that way. His head looked like it took a 12 guage load from 10 paces.

Jakes can act like gang members, especially when you get 5 or more together. MY mistake.

yea, I don't think a guy should let his dog play with wovlves ! but hey, its your dog!!!! that would happen only once here! I would be eating alot of wild turkey and drinking a little too!!! tom111

hey wait just a minute, never lost one?? who said that, you guys just keep making crap up!! I loose about 22 / 24% from egg/to adult that onlys a survival rate of 76/78% I loose more birds than you guys own all together! so dude quite making crap up! tom ps any I diot knows you have the right to protect your animails from whatever

Once had a game rooster get run off from a neighbor's place (he was the smallest of the lot). Wound up at our place. Flew over the fence, whipped twelve grown dual-purpose roosters one by one and took all the hens for himself. We had some mighty put out roosters there for a while, but egg production went up!

Actually you can't. I have a few hawks a year I would like to kill form killing off my birds, but it is illegal. You can't just kill wild turkeys without tags and not in season. They are not predators.
