Hi I got my first turkey chick and he looked beautiful for a month. Now his eyes are always clouded over with bubbles and they water a lot. He has huge bags under his eyes but they have not hardened. He constantly tries to blow out his nostrils. We believe it is a bad sinus infection and we were told to use duramox? Or something to put in his water. He did well first few days and now it's not. I don't know what to do any advice is appreciated.

I can't help but I hope you find some soon. Best wishes for your turkey.

Never heard of "duramox" but its probably some stabilized version of amoxycillin. I would suggest Tylan would perhaps be a better alternative, it seems to be the antibiotic of choice for respiratory problems in poultry, and its widely available at most farm/feed stores like Tractor Supply.

Which ever antibiotic you decide to use, start it right away, or the bird may die, sounds like he's pretty bad already.

Tylan used on poultry is 'off label' (not labeled for that use) but it does work for respiratory issues. The injectable kind works better, but don't inject into muscle because it can cause permanent muscle damage. If you want to go one step further, I use an 18 guage needle attached to a syringe. Start with the plunger pushed all of the way in and inject the needle into the swollen area. Then you can slowly pull the plunger out to suck the gunk out of the sinus so it doesn't harden. I say slowly because the stuff in there is usually thick enough that you will feel resistance. The few birds that I had to do this to held remarkably still after the needle was in, probably afraid to move because it could rip their face open. If you do that, don't use the same needle to draw out the Tylan or you will contaminate the whole bottle.

Didn't think to post about his character. He is fully alert at all times and roams our yard. You can call him and he'll come to you. I looked for tylan but I said or turkeys, didn't know it was off label. Will go back. This morning he appears to be better. I clean his face every hour or so trying to keep the gunk down an it seems to help make it run through his nostrils. Right now he is flying up in spurts in the yard. How long do you treat with tylan and what is the dosage? Thank y'all

His face is puffy but not bad like the pic. I found a pic of one with a sinus infection and he looked more like that. I'm going to look for tylan now. When I give him the tylan do I stop the medicated water? Don't want to overdose him.
