My palm turkey named Slim decided to hide away beside the coop and was sitting on 9 of her own unfertile turkey eggs when I decided to exchange those for 9 chicken eggs. I candled throughout and by the time day 18 rolled around I only had 1 unfertile egg and 1 quitter. So onward she went with 3 days to go and 7 eggs to hatch. As of this morning, she has 6 adorable little chicks...sadly, the 7th one wasn't strong enough to make it out of the shell...but the other 6 chicks are the cutest!! She won't let me take the greatest pics...her wings are much larger and stronger than a chickens, but in the chick picture you can see the one chick, and another pair of feet off to the left
So this is to show that yes indeed, a turkey can hatch out chicks!!
I'm so excited for her! She sat there for almost a week on her own eggs before I decided to do the swap for chicken eggs...very patient mama! (Even though turkeys sit for 28 days)
