My Turkey Layed Her First Egg Today!

It was white with brown speckles and about the size of my Buff Orpington's eggs. Do they get larger at all? Are they good to eat?
I don't have a tom...if I did I would be hatching baby turkeys!

Usually turkey eggs are considerably larger than chicken eggs and yes the turkey eggs are good to eat. You need to get that girl a feller.

Turkeys lay a "pullet" egg just like chickens when they first start laying, They will get bigger as they lay. What breed of turkey is it? Some breeds like the Beltsville Small white are known to self reproduce. It's called Parthenogenesis. Talking with some reasearchers at the USDA and some people familier with the Beltsville breeding program the self fertility rate was about 4% and the hatchabilty much less than that. Of course we had to try a "backyard" project and out of 34 eggs from a single hen. 32 were "clears" 2 started to develop and quit at about 14 days.

She's a Royal Palm. I have two others too. I know they need a boy friend. One of them was strutting around like a Tom the other day. They are the ones I posted pictures of a few weeks back. I figured the first egg was like a pullet egg. My son had the egg for breakfast this AM and pronounced it yummy!
