My two factory hens first taste of freedom - UPDATE VIDEO UPLOADED!

Hey Qualara aaaaw, bless them and bless you for rescuing them! Poor little girls.

It was so beautiful to see her pecking at the green grass from the safety of her crate and that first step bought a tear to my eye and the sun baking broke the dam .. I cried!

Watching their wing flaps and dust bath was awesome!

Looking forward to seeing how they are doing now and I love that they are giving you attitude! lol

Many, many years ago we drove to a hatchery and purchased 6 hens.

When we got them home, we popped the box into the run, opened the box and gently lifted out each girl and placed her on the ground.

What happened next still brings a tear to my eye to this day …. They didn’t move, they all stayed exactly where we had put them for at least 10 minutes. We tried giving them an ever so gentle prod; nothing, no movement. It was at this point we realised that, as a result of confinement in a tiny cage, in a hatchery, these gals did not realise that they could move!

Not long after our realisation, the gals had a realisation of their own in that their legs did have a purpose and from that moment on, they made up for lost time! These gals scratched, dug, explored, sun bathed, dust bathed and regardless of how nice we were to them, made use of those legs to ensure that we were never able to catch them!

That was so moving to watch. I just loved being a part of all of the "firsts"- first blade of grass, first rays of sun, first stretch of the wings, and finally, that first luxurious dust bath. It was heartwarming to see how strong the instinct to "be a chicken" is, even though they had no experience doing the things they were doing. Wishing them a long and happy life together with you!

Beautiful video! Breaks my heart that these poor creatures are kept in such horrible conditions and their lives mean so little to those who use them :hit. Thank you for taking them in and sharing their journey with us. :hugs

It was so heartwarming to watch that. To see them melt in the sun for the first time in their lives is very special.
I admire your gentleness towards them. I can tell you have a great love for you birds.

:hugs Thank you for giving these girls the life they deserve to live. I am confident they will make a full recovery both physically and spiritually under your loving care.

Lovely chooks you have. I got 10 hens once from a factory farm, they were in bad shape. They couldn't walk & I had to teach them to drink. I put water in a dish & they didn't know what it was. It took a week before they got to a normal state. It was cruel to see them when I first got them. Yours will get better each day. In a week if you look back to your vid. they will be completely different looking hens.
