I had posted a while ago that 2 stray dogs killed one of my BO`s on my property.
Ever since then I cant get near my hen or my Roo.. they run off and will not have anything to do with me. Omelette used to sit with me..on me.. around me, follow me. The roo not so much.. he was allways a bit flighty .But since that day they wont get near me. I hate that.I have tried everything from treats to sitting inside the coop with them .trying to sit still ,talk to them for hours and nothing. I really hate that. All the work I had put into them to get them to trust me is now gone.
I wonder if they think it was me or my fault.
Could they be in shock of seeing a flockmate beeing killed by 2 huge dogs?
I also have cats but they couldnt care less about the cats either. The cats have to make a beeline around the chickens. And my cats dont chase the chickens anyway.
I can let my dog out and they do not run from her. Its me that they dont like anymore. I been working with them since the other got killed but they wont budge and run off and just complain.

I am just a bit bitter that this happend and all the time and effort I had put into the chickens to get them to be tame is now out of the window.
Needless to say I harbor mortal thoughts about these dogs.Should have shot em when we had the chance but where to late to do it in a safe manner.

Le sigh..

Are you giving treats when you go out. I'm sure they will start coming again to you, with a little encouragement.
They do seem to learn quickly, as you have noticed. Don't give up. they are creatures of habit.

Mine did the same thing, especially Rodney (young JG roo). They were happy go lucky pet chickens until the day of the massacre. They were never the same after that. Rodney lost all of his trust. From that day forward he has never been the same. Stupid worthless neighbor dogs.
