My (Very) New Flock

When you first pick them up, do so slowly so as not to freak them out. Talk to them soothingly the whole time.
Once you have them, hold your lift hand gently to their breast and start stroking them with your right hand.
They will calm down in short order and lay down. When they are calm, touch their beaks, combs and wattles (if any present).
All the while talking gently. You should be able to lower your left hand from the breast and they will usually stay.

They don't like me very much yet. I've been sitting in the brooder with them. They'll eat out of my hand but definitely prefer not to be held.
just keep at it, every day at least hold each one of them. Some will end up loving the attention and others still not so much but keep doing it. They need to know you and learn trust. Our most friendly are the buff orpingtons and golden comets. Wyandotte is a cuddle chick as well and will eat out of our hands. Our BCM roo is amazingly friendly as well. EE are worst to get but love when they are being held and BA are still most flighty

I'll keep trying! I'm so afraid I'll hurt them when they start moving their wings. I got some plain yogurt and Pease for bribes.
