(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I grew up in rural northwest Oklahoma and was able to help my aunts take care of their chickens. I was always jealous that I didn't have chicks, but now that changed! I got my first shipment of chicks in the mail a few weeks ago. They are living in a nice big box, growing big enough to make it to their new coop in a month or so! I have 10 eggs that are on day 18 lockdown today, so I should be adding more to the flock by Friday!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 8 chicks that are about 3 weeks old, and 10 eggs that were fertile today (day 18/lockdown of incubation!)

(3) What breeds do you have? 1 olive egger, 2 easter eggers, 1 lavender orpington, 1 buff orpington, 1 golden cuckoo maran, 1, silver-laced wyandotte, and 10 silkies due to hatch in a couple of days!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Although we haven't gotten any eggs yet, the exciting aspect is that I will be able to add to my list of home-grown food and cutting out eggs that are raised in deplorable conditions. I see it as me giving good food, shelter, and clean water in return for rent (eggs).

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I am a hobby beekeeper, travel enthusiast, and backyard gardener.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a CPA specializing in audits. To get away from my hellish job, I like to get closer to mother earth - hence raising chickens illegally in my back yard :gig:gig:gig. In addition to the chickens and bees, we have 2 dogs and 4 cats, and lots of love!
