My Wild Turkey Hatched!!!!!Updated 7/18/08

It was 4 days earlier then I expected but 1 of them hatched. I am still going to give the other 1 a few more days.

So far he seems pretty tame. I hope it stays like that and he sticks around. Any suggests? Should I get another turkey so he wont be lonely? Wolf Lake Swap Meet is Saturday, they had babies there last month. Thanks for any input, Krista
SO it's been just over a month now and I have left the cage door open the past few days. He has been doing great so far. Just after he was hatched I put him in w/ my bantam chicks that were just a few days older and that has become his flock. I cant wait to see a big ol turkey running around w/ these tiny birds. I'm hoping it's a he but dont really know yet. Any guesses? This is a pic taken today.

Very cute! Congrats on the baby turkey. If you don't have more turkeys, you can put him with some baby chicks (chickens) to keep him company. They do like flocks and company, just like chickens. Good luck with your little one.

My turks do fine with the chicks--they will teach the poult how to eat. Did the turkey eggs from me hatch?

No, I had a few peep and that was it.

Do you have a frizzle rooster. About 75% of the chicks that hatched are frizzled.

Help!! I have 2 baby turkeys that are 2 days old and are not walking. they lay and sleep but will kick their legs and go around in circles. I need to know what I need to do or if they are crippled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is it illegal to keep a wild turkey? I read that you can not raise tuekys and chickens together because they both have parasites that are not harmful to their own breed but is deadly to the other. Is this true? Thanks

Put your new turkey chicks in a brooder on a paper towel or old blanket. then scatter the food on the paper towel, also dip there beak in the water so they learn where it is. They also don't see very well the first week or so. You will need to change the paper towel about every day. If you use an old blacket cut to fit the brooder, don't let the poop dry. hose it off right after you change it.

Baby Turkey chicks don't need food or water for the first couple of days so don't panic. Just like chicken chicks.

Baby chicken chicks start with like a 20 % protein feed, turkey chicks eat a 24% wild game bird mix. I would not keep a baby chick or turkey chick together for more then a week. But some say it helps teach the turkey chicks how to eat and drink.

It all depends on where you live if its legal or you need a permit to hatch wild turkeys. In several state you can keep and raise wild turkeys.

As far as passing dieses or parasites that happens only if the chickens already have it. The most common is Black heads dieses which chickens can survive but not turkeys. I you haven't had a problem with that or some other dieses in your area then it should not be a problem.
