i'm so thrilled. i was afraid she was going to die today. it's 103 today. she's been upset all day. she followed me everywhere & wanted me to pick her up. she's avoided the others. she went back into the coop & rooted around in the nest boxes then came back out. this afternoon during the hottest part of the day she wouldn't get under the mister in the cool shade w/the others. she ultimately picked a spot outside in the dirt & shoved it out some. i put the mister on her because she was so heat stressed.

i just went out there & she was up & mixing w/the others & no longer in distress. i looked where she had been and there was this perfect little brown egg. MY FIRST EGG. IT'S JUST BEAUTIFUL! it's a little thing. the soil was wet from the mister, so i don't think i can eat the egg. i understand the shells are permeable. that's ok. i'm just thrilled for her & so glad she's ok. i thought i was going to lose her.

now my black australorp, my barred rock, and my buff orpington need to follow her example. lol

thanks. i just worried that being in a wet environment, the egg was bad. she had another one the next day in the same spot (dry by then). i am now the proud owner of two pretty little brown eggs.

Congrats! I figured out which our 16 hens started laying last week. We have had 3 little eggs from our Rhode Island Red so far. It is very exciting, as she is only 18 weeks this Friday. I don't expect to see others for a couple more weeks, but I do remain hopeful!
ENJOY!

Congrats!! Chickens are so much fun
