I have a 6 year old pet hen named eagle eye. Her right eye has always had a “predator” pupil type thing since we got her as a young pullet. She’s blind in the “eagle” eye. She’s never had any issues until recently i started noticing it’s very swollen and her eye is bulging slightly. I really hope it’s not mycoplasma as i don’t want to put her down. Any opinions are extremely helpful. Thank you very much she’s a Rhode Island Red Brahma mix by the way

I would think that the eye may have been pecked or injured or infected. Mareks disease can sometimes cause a grey eye with a mishapen pupil, but other things can cause the eye damage. But the bubbles in the eye and swelling may also indicate mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG.) MG is common in many backyard flocks, and is not a reason to panic. It can be treated with Tylan which you can get here:

You are amazing! Just relieved so much stress. Would it be okay for the rest of my flock to drink it as well or will i still need to isolate her? And do i need to do anything else to help her? Is there any other medicine or treatment of any kind that can benefit the tylan powder? Again, thank you so much. I don’t think it’s mareks, as her eye has been like that for years, it’s just the swelling that recently started.

I would place her in a dog crate with food and Tylan water, so that she is the only one getting treatment. Keep her in the crate with the others to keep her from being aggitated or lonely. Treat only birds that show symptoms.

I thankfully don’t have anymore showing symptoms, should i still pick a companion for her?

Or just keep the crate near the coop?

I prefer to keep my chickens with the others. If your crate will fit in the coop or run, I would place it in their. If they mostly free range in a shady spot during the day, move the crate with them.
