I'm very sorry

Ole red you and I must have been typing at the same time. I now know why you want to cull the whole flock. I'm very sorry that you have to do that. Farming/raising animals is tough work and you hope to sell some product and then this happens.

Best of luck. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

update: the state vet called me this morning and said w/ further testing, that the first test had shown a false positive.

everything is cool w/my chickens, they just had a cold!

I would be very suspect of that. Chickens aren't mammals, they don't just get colds.

You should definitely look into it further.

I lost my entire first flock to disease. I know how you feel.

They have some kind of disease. DO NOT cull until you find out what. Some are treatable. I talked to the poultry guy at Iowa State once and he said it is almost impossible to keep your birds disease free in a backyard setting. A robin could spread something that easily. I bought a bird once and quarantined it and was so glad I did. I don't buy birds from anyone anymore but a hatchery. That is why hatcherys are so strick. Bird diseases can spread easily.

A vet told you your chickens had a cold?

I'd sure want him to define "cold."

Then again, maybe more communication with these guys is not a good idea.
