Mynah birds???

I'm thinking of getting a Mynah Bird.

Does anyone have any experiences with them?

i've read they can be very messy, great talkers and for a nice handfed one you're going to pay anywhere from $800-$1200

A friend of mine is from the philippines and she had them there and told us many stories about hers. She said it sounded just like a human and when someone would knock on the door he would say "come in" she said many times they would find people in there house because they thought it was a person telling them to come in. She has been trying to find one here for awile with no luck.Hope you are able to get one from what she said they sounded like a great bird.

They are pretty messy (most fruit eaters are), but they're great birds. Their talking ability is amazing! However, they seem to have almost disappeared from the pet market, I haven't seen one in a few years. Let us know if you get one!

Mynahs are very fun to have!
Each bird has it`s own personality.I own three myself.
I have "Mo" who is a very laid back bird, "Bo" who is totaly the opposit of Mo - Bo is very out there and he is very out going and likes to laugh alot.And then there is Bonzo who is a loner but likes to hang out with humans ( He doesn`t like Bo nor Mo).

I`ve had them since they were just a few days old.They fell out of my coconut tree.Here in Hawaii, they are very plentiful here and they are considered a nusiance but I dont see it in them.

They are very fun to have and did I mention they are excellent talkers.Mo, Bo, and Bonzo started to talk when they they were just 3 months old and they like to have conversations with me.I also had an African grey and if I were to compare their mimicry ability, mynahs are the way to go!All three of my mynahs can talk all day and they never shut up. My african grey ,however use to talk but not as much as my 3 mynahs.

They need fruit in their diet. No exceptions! Since they are a soft bill , they dont really eat seeds. Instead I have them on a pelleted diet and give them fruits and vegetables everyday.

My three are known as common mynahs. There are very few breeders of mynahs on the mainland.It will be very hard to find one.As for prices, I believe I saw common mynahs being sold in California ( when I was on Vacation) for about $600 and if you want the most extreme, best ,unbelieveable talkers there were also some greater hill mynahs going for about $1200 but that was a few years back.

You cant really go wrong with a mynah.

They are a great bird, but arent for everyone. Theres over 33 Species of Mynahs, but only a few are kept as pets.Greater Indian Hill mynahs are the best known talkers and the Java Hill mynahs are next.

Some well known brands sell mynah food.
I was able to find some local when I planned on getting a mynah.

They love ripened fruit

Since they arent seed eaters, they dont have a crop.

Since they arent climbers, they need plenty of room to hop and fly in their cage if they will spend alot of time in it.
They have a naturally split tongue and shouldnt be given toys with rope or string on them since it can get tangled and injured. They love to pick up and carry toys.
