There have been several posts about raising single chicks, so I thought I would share ours. Myra hatched out late (day 24 almost 25) and mom had already gotten off the nest with the others that hatched day 20-21. Here she is just hatched with lots of help since she had lots of membrane dried on her-you can see it on her back.
It took her 3 days to be able to stand (so siblings are by now over a week old and running and she is wobbling and not able to keep up) we tried to give her to mom but it never worked out. She was not eating so we tried yogurt and had great success. Then found she would only eat yogurt
Got smart and started adding chick starter to yogurt-which she still eats daily.
She was staying in my bedroom but quickly learned how to get out of her box and snuggled in hubbys shoes
-hubby didn't think it was cute! Time for a new box. Spoiled that she is she does not like heat lamp or light but prefers her heating pad-and still does
She is 3 weeks old today and as you can see she goes with us pretty much everywhere-walmart shopping this morning. She is content to be with us or should I say prefers to be with us. We play outside several times each day with the other chicks, but you can tell when it is time for her to go in. She is fine being left to nap at home for a couple of hours if we first play with her outside so she is worn out. She does follow us around (be careful where you step) and comes to clicking of the fingers or my voice. She is spending more and more time outside and we are hoping to have her move outside one of these days
