Good afternoon. So this morning i went to let out my chickens and i saw this mysterious blood looking splatter literally all over the coop like its been splatted and sprayed.

I checked the chickens sleeping in the coop, checked their wings, under, each one looks completely fine. Then i thought well maybe its rooster semen. I gave that theory up because ive seen his before from when he was a raging young roo trying to make with my boot last winter:/.

So what could this be? It has an orange color to it and doesnt look like blood

Heres the photo

This is splattered all over the walls, nesting boxes, the floors. Even a few spots on my rooster.

Thoughts?

It's poop. Called cecal droppings. That stuff is nasty, sticky and stinky, with the consistency of a very loose pudding. If the chickens step in that, it can get all over the place. It's a perfectly normal type of droppings, so it's nothing to worry about but it is gross!

How would they splash this all over the walls? Do they shake around while theyre dropping it? Thats strange but yes gross:cd

The stains look orange in the pictures, but if they are red like blood, I would look around for any blood coming out of nostrils or a beak. A respiratory disease called ILT which can cause gasping and gaping, can cause bloody mucus which may be slung all around the coop and walls. You should definitely see some breathing distress if this is the cause. If not, it just may be diarrhea. Most chicken coops have a few of those splatters, LOL.

Luckily I dont think its a respiratory issue. I also checked for that they all seem very healthy and breathing normal.

Yes its totally gross! Good thing they do this when Im not around. Id hate to get splashed by that

I had also thought maybe a mouse got in there and the rooster had at it. But since it was an orangish color I disregarded that
