Hello,
I will start this off by saying this is NOT my flock, but a friends. I told her I would reach out here to get some opinions.
She started off by telling me that she had a hen that she thought had sour crop and she gave it ACV and it died in the process.
A few days later she was telling me that her rooster was dying. She sent me a photo of his vent, which had runny poop around it. We were thinking it had gleet.
He ended up dying
She then found a duclay
Who was very lethargic and weak and she was able to get apple cider vinegar into her. But she is not doing too well today. And it looks like she may end up passing as well.
Details.
- no mites on these birds
- all lethargic
- huge dip in egg production (18 a day instead of 30)
- Duclay:
- if she’s holding her, and she turns her to her side then whatever side she’s turned to that wing will fall.
- Standing in the coop, hunched and drooped.
- vent looked normal
- thought birds had sour crop ACV not working.
(Photos below)
Spitshauben:
- found dead
- watery feeling crop
(Photo below)
Rooster:
- standing in coop hunched
- wings drooped
- no mites.
(Photos of vent below)
For food they get a feed mix that’s formulated for layers by a local farmer.
They of course get scraps as well.
These are all the details I have on the birds and the situation. If you have any more questions to help solve this mystery I will ask her and get the info and try to update it asap.
She really really adores her chickens so this is literally destroying her. And I am hoping we can find some solutions.
