Mystery "barred rock"

They are pink/ white legs!
I am thinking Sussex too, I suppose that all the markings will get spread out and it will look less "messy".

I haven't posted an update on this bird for a while. It still looks very similar in shape to my barred rocks, it clearly has barring in all or most of the black. The black on it's back actually has some brown in it. The pattern is distributed similarly to light Sussex.. I have looked up crosses of the two but can't find any images similar to my pullet. Is this a possible outcome of the genetics of the two breeds?
I'm afraid the images are not very clear as this pullet is rather nervous, my rocks are not my most docile birds but they are not as nervous as this pullet. having said that it did fly into my girlfriends shoulder a few days ago, seemingly to wipe poo in her hair.
Oh and also, contrary to what I previously posted, the legs are yellow. The feet are still pale but yellow seems to be coming through now.

It's a barred Rock mix. Mixed with what, not sure.

I had a similar colored hen who was from a barred Rock father and a silver laced Wyandotte hen. I'm thinking your bird's other half isn't Sussex as those white legs are usually dominant. But, she looks like a she, and will likely be a good layer.

Pics of my hen.....

You keep dropping pearls of wisdom for me donrae, I really appreciate it. I'm not sure if you saw this, I wrote in an earlier post:

"The seller currently sells Light Sussex, Rhode Island Red and Barred Plymouth Rock. They will soon be selling more varieties, so I assume these could also be possible, they are; Vorwerk, Silver-Laced Wyandotte, Welsummer, Barnevelder, Black Rock and Ayam Cemani."

They have started selling all of the above breeds since I started this thread. Now I know! Barred rock x silver laced Wyandotte. My chick must come from a barred rock hen and a Wyandotte rooster as the eggs where all the same colour and it would have been collected from a barred rock pen.
Thanks again!

Cool!

I can't see in the pics, does your girl have a rose comb? Rose combs are dominant, so that would clinch her ancestry in my mind.

I really loved that hen. The Wyandotte blood made her a little heftier than my Rocks and Easter eggers, and she was a good layer. I crossed her with my barnyard mix rooster and got some really nice babies, and the cockerels had enough meat to make it worthwhile to butcher.

I am really not sure about the comb. I have never managed to get a good look, it is very small though, smaller than any of my other birds so it seems like it probably is. I will try and get some more photos in the morning, she is getting less nervous so I might get a decent photo tomorrow. She is slightly larger and wider than the rocks, I would be very happy to end up with a larger hen.

I managed to catch the pullet this morning, she was briefly quite calm in my hands. Looks like a single comb to me though..

Yep, straight comb. One of their Wyandottes could carry a recessive gene for that, it's not unheard of.
