When I got my first chicks on Feb 18 we got a couple of barred rocks and buffs (sadly enough our barred rocks died, I think it was a bad shipment.) One of our buffs turned all white and has green feet. She isn't bigger than the other ones and the shipment that the feed store got didn't have any cornish crosses, which her being one still scares me. In that shipment they also had americaunas. I was wondering if any one knows what breed she is or if she is a genetic mistake.

I would post a picture but this site won't let me

Thanks to anyone who can help,

First keep posting and you will be able to post pictures soon. She is probably a "americauna" which being from a hatchery makes her a Easter Egger, do a search of the forum you will find lots of info on it.

If she were a cornish cross she would be very bulky (think grocery store broiler but smaller due to age) and therefore look quite different from your egg layers. CX also have yellow feet. I don't know what kind she is but she certainly doesn't sound like a CX.

EE's aren't that bad to have! I loved my first so much (5weeks old LOL), I had to go get 2 more last week! I got one cream colored one hoping to get an all white/mostly white EE, after reading a thread here on BYC! ADORABLE!

And yes, I think if you post 10 posts anywhere you can go to uploads on the menu bar on top of the forum page and start up loading pics. When it uploads, just right click to copy the image link, and paste the link it gives you and it will show up when you post. Can't wait to see! '

Here are my 2 new EE's!

It's probably an EasterEgger... green feet are a giveaway.

"Americanas" from the feed store/hatchery are not purebred Ameraucanas. They are EEs, mongrels with a blue egglaying ancestor. They can look like anything, and lay any color egg. Typically fair/better egglayers, fairly good temperaments, though they can vary being mutts.

Sounds like she is an EE to me. I love mine. I am waiting until the feed store gets some more in at the end of April

Thanks all. That helps a lot

Out of all the chicks we got she was the one I picked to keep for egg laying (my friend is to pick the other ones). I was never to thrilled with birds, I got attacked to many times by all types, but my chicks have giving me a soft spot -especially for my Meaty

Yes I'm a child at heart for calling her Meaty.

I would keep more than one, just in case your EE turns out to be a boy, and she will need a friend anyway...I hear they lay better when they have company! LOL! My husband was deathly afraid of large dogs, after being attacked by one as a boy, but after being with our German Shepherd for a few months, he can't get enough of well trained dogs and is now wanting to get a third one all on his own!!! POINT of the story! If you continue to give YOUR chickens love and attention they won't attack you. My 6 week old Barred Rock will jump up onto the cage top to be held if I walk into the room and don't go straight to her to hold her! LOL!
