Mystery chick from hatchery order

If she is a neat EE, does that mean the Ameraucana's in the batch are actually EE's as well?

Thanks for the help :D

Yes, those are both Easter Eggers as well.

The first one is definitely a cockerel, but you probably already knew that. ;)

Not all easter eggers have poufy cheeks. EE's are a cross, and depending on what breeds were used as parents, they may or may NOT have fluffy cheeks.

Sometimes the only difference between EEs and Ameraucanas is that the EEs are not a color that is accepted by the Ameraucana standard of perfection. You can search for the Ameraucana Breeders Club site, and they have pictures of the 8 accepted varieties. Very few hatcheries sell true Ams, although they still use the Ameraucana label, which is carried on by backyard breeders who have never been on BYC to learn the difference!

EEs have a lot of good qualities- most lay green (sometimes blue or brown) eggs, they tend to be very healthy (hybrid vigor!), come in a variety of colors, and tend not to go broody.

I see muffs and a beard coming in on the bird above (is that the one you originally posted about?). I agree it looks like a pullet.

The last two pictures were of some the birds we had identified as Ameraucana's/EE. I was unaware that the EE's could have cheeks that were not puffy so was confused by one of our chicks. The chick I was confused about is the very first one I posted. Might just have to go take a look at the 8 accepted types of colour for the Ameraucana's!
