I ordered Black Jersey Giant eggs from Ideal. 4 hatched. Three look like BJG's. This is the other. Any idea what it is?

That looks like an Americauna to me. That's what my Americauna looked like when they were chicks.

I really don't see any muffs or a beard so I can't say your chick is an Ameraucana. It is possible its an Easter Egger sold as an Ameraucana. What color are its legs? That "chipmunk" pattern is found in other chicks so not really a good indication of breed. Could it be a Chantecler? Just a guess, give it a few weeks and post another picture, maybe more clues will show up then.

The egg was light brown. Another poster on the incubating forum said some Americaunas have brown eggs. I just hope that whatever breed it is, that it's a girl. I don't need another rooster. Especially if it's a mystery breed! I wonder if this sort of mix up happens often at Ideal.

I have no idea what it is but it looks like you pulled it from my brooder! I had 8 eggs hatch yesterday and 4 look just like yours. Mine all came from light brown eggs and are mutts. I got the eggs at the local feedstore where there are many purebreds all mixed in together.

You know my Danish Brown Leghorns looked like that also when they were chicks. Just keep an eye on her/him and see if she develops muffs and a beard, she's an Americauna. You might pick her if by the scruff of her neck like you would a kitten and if she draws her legs up, it's a he, if her legs dangle, it's a she. I read this trick on the post yesterday. Some old timer educated some folks on that was how they sexed their chickens.

I might know what my mystery chick is. Its little yellow legs have started to turn green. Ideal sells Indian Red Jungle Fowl. They have willow green shanks, and the pics look like mine. I also found this http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/NDG/BRKRedJF.html

Hopefully
, it's a pullet. Has anybody here had any of these? Are the roosters psychopaths?
