so i got my order of chicks from Murray McMurray hatchery yesterday. the mystery chick looks a lot like an EE, but i already ordered EE and from what ive gathered, they dont usually send a breed that is already in the order as the mystery chick. im wondering if maybe it is a speckled sussex? or just another EE? i did ask for a cold hardy breed since im in NH.

X2 on the Campine, or maybe Buttercup, can't tell the comb type. Don't think McM has Barnvelders normally.

It looks like an EE or a welsummer chick to me. I have week old chicks of both and they are pretty difficult to tell apart. In about two weeks when the wings are feathered out it will be very apparent. The waiting is the hardest part!

If I understood your original post correctly, you had ordered EEs in that specific order? McM will sometimes put in extra chicks of what you ordered in the box, so if you ordered EEs there very well could be one or more extra if they had extra chicks. Actually do not think I have ever gotten an order where there has not been one or more extra chicks of something I ordered (these are 50+ chick orders though, don't know what they will do on 15 chick orders). So the chick could be an extra EE, but they usually do not send something that you have ordered as your "exotic". Soooo... how many chicks were in the order, and are you sure you have identified the rest? Otherwise I am sticking with my GC or BC guess for now.

Rnbwbrite1207 - it does look like a welsummer chick, but i dont think MM have those. I looked because its a breed my mom really likes and wants and i was going to order her some. couldnt find them so i got her a couple EE instead, so Kelsie2290, you read correctly. i ordered, in this order, a total of 15 birds and received 16.

2 EE pullets
2 Silver laced wyandotte pullets
1 Silver laced wyandotte roo
4 St. run Blue laced red wyandottes
3 silver polish pullets
1 silver polish roo
2 NH Reds
1 mystery chick

all are accounted for and marked according to breed/sex as i requested except for the mystery chick. guess ill have to wait until some more feathers come in, but i still feel like its an EE because i have terrible luck and at that, its probably a rooster since i finally found a home for all my extra EE roos lol

Next time you get chicks, if you are still looking for welsummers I recommend Meyer Hatchery. They are really nice and very helpful. Also my birds are very healthy.

im not interested in Welsummers, but my mom is. ill recommend Meyer to her if she still wants some Welsummers. thanks!

as for the mystery chick, its got most of its feathers in now and its looking more and more like an easter egger, and a cockerel at that. what do you all think?
