We have some buckeye chicks one has always been lighter we are thinking she is a new hampshire red not a buckeye. She is almost seven weeks old. What do you think?

New Hampshires would have straight combs. Probably just a variation within the breed. Gosh, they are cute!

No. Odds are real low that they would be a RIR with a pea comb. I think if you're breeding to standard, you'd want to choose the darker colored ones.

She unfortunately died this morning I do believe she was a buckeye like you said she mostly likely was.
