My husband is bringing home three free baby chickens from work on Wednesday - He works at a high school and they were a science project. I have no idea what breed(s) they are. They are about 3 weeks old, and the darker colored one's gender is marked "highly questionable". Any thoughts?

Thank you!!! :)

A lot of yellow chick breeds looks similar when they're young, so it will be a few months before you know their breed for sure. However, it is likely that they are one of two common white breeds--the White Leghorn and the White Plymouth Rock. I'm not sure what the black chick could be.

There are several breeds these could be since most white chickens start out as yellow fuzz-balls. The most likely in my opinion would be either white leghorns or delawares since these breeds are abundant and cheap and easy to obtain from any hatchery or feed store and I doubt whoever bought them for the project was very picky about breed. You should hope for delawares though because leghorns are mean and delawares are very sweet if you handle them at a young age.

That darn pesky black one is going to drive me nuts. I am thinking we should try to make sure we snag that one so I can watch it grow up and try to figure it out :) The husband also said there is one with "very long" head feathers and feathery legs, too - unlike the rest of them.

Thank you, everyone!
