Hey,
I got this little guy in March as a day old chick from the Rural King. He was sold as a Speckled Sussex female which he is obviously NOT!
He has a pea comb so I thought he might be an easter egger, but those yellow legs and dark mahogany red color make me think there could be Buckeye in the mix?
So far at 19 weeks old, he's behaving himself which is wonderful cuz aggressive roosters kept me from having chickens for 20 years!
I'll keep him no matter what, but if he gets mean then I'll separate him from the hens and put him in a bachelor pen.
(Note...that's a welsummer pullet behind him.)

Looks like he's got Lacing on his chest, could he be a Barnevelder? :) He's a pretty boy, doesn't seem like a mix to me. seems a bit dark to be a Wyandotte rooster and he's got a lot of comb, more like a feedstores quality single than a pea, but I could be wrong! My votes of Barnevelder if the chest is laced :D

Here's a blurry pic that shows his comb a little more. I'm pretty new to chickens and assumed it was a pea comb cuz it started as 3 little rows of "peas" that turned into that big comb. I don't think he has lacing on his chest? I hadn't considered Barnevelder cuz I've never seen them sold at our Rural King store. I'd be thrilled if he was a Barnevelder though!

Thanks for saying he's pretty too!
I did not want a rooster, but I actually quite like him!

Based off of this! I assumed that if they could order them they could also just stock them normally. From that angle it is kinda odd too, hmm. I'd still guess Barnevelder cause of color but possibly a dark looking Golden Laced Wyandotte? :) He's a really good looking dude, even if his combs not "standard" :D

I looked at Barnevelder rooster pics and you're right that he does look a lot like them except for his unusual comb!

I should clarify why I first thought he might be an Easter egger...I got another chick with him from the same bin that was also supposedly a female Speckled Sussex. She turned out to be an Easter egger pullet. Here's a pic.
