Mystery Duck Death - Death by mating??

I went to let my ducks out of the pen this morning and one of the females was lying on the ground and the others stepping on her on their way out. We only have one male and he’s just getting old enough to start mating. Is it possible that he killed her trying to mate with her?
He is Muscovy and she was a smaller brown duck, unsure which breed.

If she is much younger, maybe. But, the muscovy females are small in comparison to muscovy males. Is there any way a predator can get in? She could have also died from natural causes.

She is older, about a year and a half. She was locked up in the pen with the other ducks all night and no sign of and external injuries. Natural causes is a possibility, I guess I’ll keep a very close eye on the others, but everyone else looks healthy at the moment.
