Wow, I just got a chance to photograph the babies again lately and wow, has the little mystery duckling changed. It's color changed a lot as he/she has grown. That solid yellow chest has become speckled with black and everyday it seems to get more and more black spots. Also, his head has gotten so triangular. More so than the Pekins.

These are from a few days ago, but will get more and post here later too. It's little crest has gotten so much bigger too! I noticed that it's lopsided. Instead of being at the back of his head, it's off to one side. hehe. This normal? I am really beginning to think it's a mix, and that the hatchery had a few star crossed lovers.

Really wish we knew his/her breed!!

Yeah, we're pretty much resigned to not knowing! Now I just get to post pics of how fast he changes!

Thank you!

It's a cutie.I raised crested's some had lil nubbin's and lil pouf's off to the side but I did have a mixed flock before I went to full crested minus 2 drakes. It will carry the crested gene however hope you can find a couple full crested duckling's to pair it with. It's adorable Congrat's.

That's what the hatchery said (based only off my description) but he is way smaller than the Pekin and is crested, also a few people said on here that he could not be Ancona. Don;t remember why though...

My vote was with Ancona or perhaps Ancona/Swede mix or something. Who knows?

We love him anyway!

I am pretty sure that little baby has a LOT of black swedish in her. I f you just took away the crest and the black specks on her head it would look just like my black swedishes.

Thanks guys!

suburbanduckmom- he really does look like a dinosaur in that pic, I never noticed! How funny! lol

dieselgrl48- I figured that the crests did not always have to be centered, but all the pics I have seen show the poof all centered on the back on their heads. lol I think his little lop sided tuft is precious. it gives him/her character!
Will have to find some more crested ducks, I just LOVE it lol!
