I have been a chicken owner for 5 years. Everything I've read said that chickens can only lay one color of egg their whole life. Today I went out to get eggs and found a bright blue egg ! I have a four year old blue Ameraucana that lays large cream-colored eggs. I have two 22 month old Easter Eggers, who to my disappointment, both laid brown eggs (so I thought). The only other chicken that is younger is my 7 month old blue laced Wyandotte. Who would you suggest like that blue egg? Is it possible that an Easter Egger won't lay an egg until 22 months of age?

Some of my EE's didn't lay until they were 20-22 months. Are you certain that your EE's lay brown eggs?

Pretty egg, wherever it came from! Chickens are sneaky. I have 3 EEs and their eggs are slightly different colors and have been trying to figure out who each color belong to. Every time I think I’ll figure it out they somehow stump me. Yesterday two were sitting in different boxes at the same time and when I went out to check on them an hour later there were 2 eggs..... in the SAME box.

I have no idea what one laid that for you, but I can tell you if it could be fertile, it would be going into my incubator for sure!

A 'true' Ameraucana will lay a blue egg. Since yours lays cream colored eggs, likely has something else in it's parentage and would either be technically an EE since it doesn't meet the APA standard, or one that would not be useful for breeding true. I'm sure she's a beautiful bird regardless. True Ameraucana's are bred for the blue egg as part of the standard. The whole Ameraucana/Americana/EE debate goes on...........It's always questionable unless they come from a reputable breeder, and only matters if you are breeding or selling or showing.

I would guess that one of your EE's is the one laying the pretty blue egg. I currently have 3 EE's laying, all lay blue, and two EE(hen)/Wyandotte(roo) mixes that lay blue-green eggs, blue with a bit of brown over it to make greenish. I have an EE(hen)/Wyandotte(roo) mix rooster whom I haven't hatched from yet, so remains to be seen what gene he will pass on.

I know for certain that one lays cuz I got them a year after my older ones. They started with little eggs. The other took forever to start and I thought I had a new egg from her but wasn't certain. I had a new favorelle too. She lays brown as well and goes crazy broody numerous times in the summer. I get alot of brown eggs. I just assumed she would have started last year.
