Mystery injury / infection on chicken face

well she’s still living on the patio in a crate… free ranging the yard during the day with a hole in her head 🤷🏻

her eye is definitely being affected.

the hole is not really closing. it’s actually probably gotten a little larger.

I’m so sorry. I wish things were turning around for her. It’s tough to watch them go through things this. Maybe one of the educators will have further suggestion.

This reminds me of…I had a pet rat that got a hole in her abdomen, I think I mentioned her earlier - the one we made a cone for. Anyways, this rat was very special to me, so I took her to the vet for treatment and the vet used staples to close the hole up. We did not know what initially caused the hole. Unfortunately it did not heal, even with staples. I was given instructions to do daily flushes with a chlorhexidine solution after the staples failed and it still never healed. The vet determined it was likely cancer and it kept growing and opening up larger and larger. She stayed in relatively good health for quite a while despite having the hole in her abdomen. Eventually I did euthanize her because I didn’t want her to end up suffering.

I don’t know if that is the case with Millhouse, and I hope it isn’t. I hope she is still able to enjoy her life as a chicken for a while. I’m really sorry none of the treatments worked for her.
