Mystery lumps?

I was washing my Americana hen for a lice treatment and I found two soft lumps on the base of her tail. One is on the preen gland and the other is off to the side of that. I haven’t noticed this on her before, is this something that I should be worried about?

Are you treating the lice with a permethrin based poultry dust or spray?

The Oil Gland looks to be inflamed. I'd apply some warm compresses and gently massage to see if that helps.

The lump beside the gland looks like it's filled with fluid? Is it hard or soft?

I’m using a Diluted permethrin Dip for the lice, This should be the last treatment for her as the lice has mostly cleared up.

Both the lumps are fairly soft, the one on the preen gland is more firm, and the one beside the preen gland is bigger, softer, and feels like it might be full of liquid.

I'm going to tag in @Eggcessive and @coach723 to take a look.

I would apply compresses to the preening gland, it looks to be impacted and inflamed, see if you can get that to go down.

The other lump that's fluid filled, not sure what would cause that, perhaps some trauma or from picking at herself if the lice infestation is heavy. I'd think about draining the fluid from it and see if it comes back.

Good advice from Wyorp Rock. Warm compresses and massage are good when the preen gland is inflamed. Let us know if you get any fluid out of the other lump. Are you sure those are lice and not mites? Mites should be treated at least twice at 7 day intervals, while lice hatch out in 10 days, and so do another treatment then. The other birds should be treated and treat the coop once all bedding is removed far away. Permethrin spray lasts about 30 days in the coop.
