I want to start off with saying I received 16 Marans out of 36 fry pan special ordered from Meyers. I was shocked, in a good way, I hear Marans are delightful meat birds and excellent eggs (accidental pullets) but I'm kind of at a loss on what I received! I will say, I think Meyers is adding new Marans breeds to their hatchery because I see they've added Blue Cuckoo and White Marans and maybe I received some of the trial batch?? I also received 1 BCM. Healthy and large, knowing my luck he'll be a roo! Anyhow, I took some pics of my chicks. The first one is a runt or bantam? Is something wrong with his feathering? I think his pattern looks like angel wings but I'm not sure if that's a defect? Am I crazy or is there barring on some of the chicks shown? I know there is at least a few splash chicks as well.

My guess is that you have some blue and blue splash Marans

I'm aware of what the special says. As well as the standard pricing being between 10-15 dollars per Maran chicks I paid .63 cents so I apologize for my enthusiasm, LOL.

Anyhow. Ahem. Thanks for those who guessed on their coloring. Is barring or the appearance of barring normal on Blue Copper Marans? I have two Andalusian Roos, a splash and a blue and I don't recall barring on either.

I've never had Marans so I appreciate everyone's help!

I see Blue Copper and Blue Splash Marans. Some very healthy, beautiful, robust-looking chickies you've got there!
Meyer doesn't carry bantam Marans, so my guess is he's just a slow grower. I believe angel wing is exclusive to ducks, you're fine. I've raised plenty of chickies with scraggly little wings before, which always resolves itself after a couple months.
As these are only their first baby feathers peeking out, I highly doubt they will be Barred into adulthood/molting into final plumage. Often the first sprouts don't look anything like those after maturity. This may be a wait and see situation.
