I'm brand new to the flock and this is my first post. I'm so glad I found you all!
I've had my chickens for a while, and thanks to a neighbor's dog coming into my fenced yard for an execution, I needed to replace chickens for the first time. I usually buy from private sellers locally, but was at an auction last weekend and picked up some new ones. They were in a shorter cage that they couldn't fully stand up in, and they looked like Ameraucana crosses, and Barred Rocks.
I brought them home to the quarantine area (my screened porch!) and let them out. They got up and stretched, and they are all around or over 2' tall! They have "normal" sized bodies and ridiculously long legs. They look like they are on stilts! I have been pouring over my chicken books and surfing the net to find out what they are, or are crossed with.
Here is one that may be a hen. I am 5'10", and the comb is higher than my knees when it is fully upright.
Here is another; I have three more colored this way.
Here are the Barred ones that are the tallest of all of them. I think two of the three are going to be roosters
From my limited searching, I wonder if there is some Modern Game, or Orloff in these guys. Also, what color are the darker Ameraucana looking ones? I am by Miami and there are a lot of cockfighters down south, but most of the game roosters I see loose are waaay smaller than this group.
Thanks for all your help. I haven't had much luck on my own figuring out what it is exactly we bought!
