Random chicken shows up…male or female?

If you have a small animal trap you can put some food in there to catch her. That or if she has already integrated herself, scatter some treats in the run and leave the door open in hopes she walks in on her own. Again, I would only do this if you are sure she's integrated herself and it would still be better to look her over first to make sure she doesn't have mites or anything

Why is it no one seems to mention the need for quarantining when a random chicken shows up on someone's property?

Maybe it's just me, but I feel inclined to mention it and not assume everyone knows the risks.
I agree with you, it’s a smart thing to mention. I was just sticking with what OP asked. I don’t ever want to scare new people off. But I do agree with others, also. In some cases, quarantine won’t make a difference if the stray chicken has already been in close proximity to their flock, so sometimes it isn’t worth a mention.

When we adopted a chicken from our neighbor, we didn’t bother quarantining her. Someone very uptight about biosecurity might still quarantine and I actually still think it’s worth doing a good review of the chicken being integrated. I still looked Ravioli over for lice/mites and any obvious signs of illness before integrating her.

I agree with you, @redinator, but it seems kind of moot, as it's probably already been hanging out with the OP's chickens or at least running around all over the property, potentially contaminating the area OP's birds free-range on.
This. :thumbsup

I agree it is always best to quarantine but as others have mentioned the point may be moot if she has already been in close proximity to your birds. At the very least I would give her a good looking over for lice mites ect. And I still might isolate her if you are able to catch her! Good luck! 😊

But that would completely contaminate YOU, would it not? And by extension, you would then contaminate your flock.
Umm that's what showers, gloves and changes of clothes are for. Hell if the thing is radioactive it's staying lost.
