Mystery Rooster

Thank you! What does hatchery quality mean? How does it rank with other qualities?
Well, in most hatcheries, they just have a pen, with a breed, and the chickens just breed, and lay eggs, and the eggs get incubated. they don't usually specifically breed for only the best, true to breed quality. So some traits pop up, like a single comb, and it just doesn't ever get bred out. But like somebody breeding for show quality birds, would cull, and breed, for a good, up to standard bird. Understand?

Really? Why? (No offense to you naked-neck lovers out there. I just don't understand the appeal. At all.)
They are not in the standard yet.

It means it does not conform and is not usually bred to conform to the American Standard of Perfection which is what breeders of birds in this standard strive for. Or the American Bantam Standard. Or if from a different country, the standard for that country, or if the breed is not yet established in the country, but hatcheries own it, and it has a breed club for it, they would breed to the breed club standard.

Very informative, thank you
