I wish I could, but I would lose my NPIP Permit. I cannot buy or sell any birds that have not been tested or are not from NPIP flocks. I am not allowed to mingle at these "hotspots for disease" (not my words, but those of the Dept. of Ag). Maryland is very strict about Biosecurity.
The more the merrier! Anybody have any nice Speckled Sussex or Welsummers? For that matter, does anyone need some? I may be getting eggs, but I really only need 1 pullet of each.
That stinks! How do they handle shows? Obviously it is possible to have a sick bird there... Although more unlikely than a "social" gathering I guess. The state is never any fun
MD (at least my tester) allows showing but tries to discourage people from showing. Especially if a disease pops up at a show. They want us to have our birds tested for P/T & AI 10 days before the show and have metal numbered ID legbands that they put on at the time of testing. No testing, no show (for your birds). We must show the test papers to the show staff and show them the legbands. And there are also people in the Delmarva area who steal birds right out of the show cages. I had one stolen, I don't think I could go through that trauma/devastation again.
