Hi Steph! I will volunteer to organize the door prizes. I'd also be happy to act as "greeter" for the day, i.e. have people sign the guest book, fill out a name tag, enter for door prizes, direct them to the appropriate chairs of the egg auction (Natalie) and bird auction (tbd) if they have items for them, tell them where to put any food & drink they might be bringing, show them where to set up their sale birds, etc. Would that be helpful? That way you'll be free to give "tours" of your farm and mingle with the BYCers! I'll also plan on showing up early to help with set up...or else I wouldn't know where to direct people!

I'll make sure to bring a table, chairs and whatever else is needed to accomplish this, ok?

Nat, I have an idea for this:

As sellers arrive, you could have them fill out pre-made index cards with specific info: 1. Breeder Name 2. Breed 3. LF/Bantam 4. Parent Quality 5. Starting Price 6. Quantity

Then you could either do:

True auction style, if buyers want to participate they get an assigned number paddle (we could make them out of a chick template) and then you would read off the card and let people bid up. It would be great if we could get you a microphone!!!

You would then write the highest bidders number on the same index card to keep track of winners.

or

You could have a table set up with the index cards attached to small boxes with slots and people would enter a slip of paper with their name and max bid. At the end, who ever has put in the highest price wins. This is silent auction style.

If we need to raise money to help pay for set up, there could be a $1 charge to participate in the bidding...or if people are donating eggs then make sure that is written on the index card.

These are all just ideas, I have never participated in an egg auction before...

Anyone else have some ideas? Nat - I could help with the index cards or small slotted boxes or numbered "chick" paddles as I have access to items like this from work. Let me know if you need me to help, I could send stuff to you ahead of time...

Oooooo, I really like the idea of a live auction! Could you imagine all of us doing in person what occasionally happens on line? Now, THAT'S entertainment!

My suggestion is the eggs and birds that are auctioned off are for the benefit of the seller and we have a 50/50 raffle to help Steph with some of the costs. What do you think?

I LOVE AUCTIONS!!! I have never been to a chickenstock/show/auction ever...this is all new to me haha-yes Im sheltered with my flocks haha-

I can get a microphone-Im sure:) I would need speakers and such too though right? Ill have to ask my DJ friends :) I love love the silent auction style lets do that and you are my helper! so ... Ill start saving little boxes at work and get index cards. We set a time span-hypothetically 3-6pm for bidding at 5:45 we make an announcement that you have 15 minutes left to put your bids in. AT 6pm sharp-we close it down-look through the boxes for the highest bidders announce them right away and make sure they are paid for immediately following the auction and puts the winners $ in envelopes with their names on them in a lock box :) -cash only? We need a cooler to hold all eggs-need to make sure all eggs are properly marked-cartons too-good so far?
