Cannot help you with the goose, but I love that a policeman suggested it, that is awesome! Guinea fowl might be a good idea too, just to think about.

from Alabama. Glad you joined us. Geese can make great "guard dogs", but some breeds can be a little more territorial or aggressive than others. My family had White Chinese geese when I was a teenager, and I don't mind admitting that they could run me back onto our porch in a flash. Then they learned how to climb the steps to the porch and would chase me all the way to the front door

We have several Toulouse and a Pilgrim geese now, and they're much, much less territorial. We also have an African goose, but I made sure to handle him a lot when he was young so he loves following me around the yard and talking to me now that he's older. I agree that you might want to look into guineas, too. If any person or strange animal comes into our yard, our guineas let everyone know about it, and they're loud, so no trouble at all hearing them inside the house.
