Naked Neck with Bowel Troubles [Graphic Descriptions] *UPDATE* PHOTO

I saw a post on treating sour crop with monistat. Would for sure be cheaper then going to a vet again. I wonder if monistat would work for the other end as well???

How is she doing?
A little bit better, but still not cured. I got the Desitin and I've been applying it regularly. Her vent is no longer as inflamed and gaping as it used to be, which is great, but she's still having the bowel troubles. The link to the page about Vent Gleet recommended Apralan, but a bit of research showed it would cost a LOT to get some. I love Iris so much, but I don't know if I can spend that kind of money. She doesn't seem to be as impacted anymore, but the crustiness isn't going away. When I remove the scabs, the inside of her vent is always red and bloody. I feel so bad, but she needs a way to get it out...

You can use monistat suppositories. Insert one each evening for 3 days. That is if you get the 3 day treatment package. It's best to wait till she goes to roost in the evening so the medicine will stay in her & have a chance to work. Spray her rear with iodine for the next 4 to 5 days & use the monistat cream in the package around the exterior vent area. I would also apply an antibiotic ointment to the vent area & resist removing any scabs as that's part of the healing process. Get her on probiotics & segregate her from the others so as to minimize any stress for her. You should see an improvement. In some situations it can be necessary to continue the monistat suppositories for an additional 3 days. Good luck. I feel for you since I've dealt with this several times my self. I think the worst part of it is that horrible smell.
