Naked necks

and they are not Turkins. I have 2 Black Australorp hens who's feathers are disappearing from there necks. From the looks of them it seems the feathers are pulled out. Red and irritated. They are in with one Silkie roo in wait for their mates that are just 5 weeks old. Laying everyday. I have bad back problems and can't chase them or get close enough for some photos. Anyone have an idea what might cause this? I have some food grade DE I am going to through into the coop this morning. I don't know what else to do. rj
 
By no means am I an expert on chickens.

But my first thought was an over zealous young rooster.

The redness could possibly be enticing the others to peck at it. might have to conceal that area for awhile. BUT.. before you do
Mites/lice etc....could also be the problem..... so don't treat them until you inspect them.

you should catch them when they are roosting for the night that will be much easier than chasing. :)

so you can take a closer good look.
