Hello everyone! I hope you had a good week, and I thank you for sticking with me as we learn bird drawings. I always welcome feedback on each 'lesson'-- does it help you? Did you find it frustrating? etc.
Since everyone drew the same thing this week I can't really give in-depth critiques of each drawing, as it was more of an exercise than anything.
equinehugger3 : Great job! When doing sketches that you are learning from, don't be afraid to leave any 'bad' marks you make on the paper. Sometimes leaving them there interrupts the flowing drawing less and you can learn from them.
I also appreciate that you did not draw the areas that you were unsure about on the photo. A
bella1210 : I can see that you are trying, and the fact that you are here means you want to learn! I tell you what, it is an honor to me that you are here. My advice is to slow down a little bit and try to faithfully re-create the shapes if you can. Since you are new, if you would like, you can try again for some 'extra credit'. Remember never to get discouraged! C+
FarmCoe : Well done and thank you for sharing your wood duck!! It looks great! The shapes of your Wigeon are good, but be careful not to draw in things that you don't see in the photo. When you are not sure what you are looking at, it is best to omit it for now. In this case be careful about the legs/feet. B+
the duck whisperer : Very nice! Don't be afraid to slow down a little in the dicey areas such as where the shapes are more complex (tail/wings). Be mindful of those 'negative' spaces such as the little triangular gap between the legs in the photo. B+
tinychicky : Very good sketch! This is taking the shapes to heart. I can tell you really were paying attention to the way the duck was posed and the major features of the duck, which are important later on in getting things in proportion. Don't be afraid to leave 'wrong' lines in there. Sometimes it helps to sketch lightly, and leave the 'wrong' lines, and then go back and decide which lines were 'right' and make them darker. A
therosehedge : Well done! Like I mentioned above, don't be afraid to slow down in the areas that have more complex shapes and lines. B
DuckLover179 : This is a nice take on the wigeon! You were sensitive to many of the different shapes and especially around the bill. Well done! B+
Quinn4321 : I am fascinated by your different takes on this! Do you feel that one way made more 'sense' to you and helped you learn about the shape of the bird (and the shapes of the space around the bird)? I really appreciate your approach and the ways you thought this one out! A
animalloverabh : An extremely faithful depiction of the shapes from my photo! I'm really pleased you saw the negative space shape between his legs. This has everything I was looking for. A+
I will get this week's lesson and assignment together ASAP!
