I was given a beautiful black copper maran roo last summer. He came with the name Black Berry. He was about a year old and had to that point been raised with one other rooster. I brought him home to my 20+ girls and he immediately morphed into Berry White. What a charmer.
As for the rest:
The Americanas were/are - Cornel Mustard, Brown eyed girl, Lucky (piece of wood fell on her head when she was about 5 wks old), Gram, Pop, Tig, Dot, Batman, Robin, Jr (looks just like Lucky), and Fluffernutter.
Golden seabright banny - Ned
Jersey Giant - Jersey Girl
Black copper maran roosters - Ruby Roo (one and two)
Blue copper maran - Sweetums (current rooster)
White leghorns - Fog and Horn the twins
White Brahamas - Baby was our original
We have several others that just look too similar to name so they are just the girls. There are 3 turkeys, white brahamas, welsummers, and brown leghorns. Those in blue are no longer "with us" They are either in the freezer, or donated to friends with flocks. We have been pretty lucky otherwise. We have only lost 4 girls that were old enough to be out of the brooder because of weather or health conditions. Jersey Girl, and Baby did not survive the heat of last summer, one of the meat turkeys had a leg that just never formed right, and the brown eyed girl was just dead one afternoon in the coop. There were no obvious signs of disease, or injury. She was only about 9 months old and not a large or meat breed?
We have a lot of fun with puns and jokes as we talk to or about our chickens. I have seen a few names on this board that we will need to borrow as we acquire new girls. How do you all name your look alikes and then keep them straight later?
