This might just be me, but the more people who tell me what they named their chickens the more I feel like this is true: Hens get to be named after herbs and other plants (Basil, Parsley, Peppercorn etc.) and often times old fashioned, pretty names like Mary, Polly, Abigail etc. or sometimes just random foods.

But roosters are given all kinds of names. classic male names like Steve, Frank, and Bob are all common ones. I also see many given "funny" or "humorous" names like Frog, Steve the Magical cheese Wizard, (yes that's a real name) and many more.

What names did you give your hens, and what names did you give your roosters?

My hens are, Marmalade, Taylor Swift, (that wasn't my choice I let my sister name her lol) Georgie, Melanie, and Cleo. My rooster was named Mr. Frank Mosasaur...

I’ve had roosters named Eyeball,Ethel,Peep,Quack,Ricky,Little Ricky,Leonidas,Butter,Ralph and Ethel. My current rooster got lucky and is named Luke Skywalker. My current hens are named Leia Skywalker,Chirp,Honey,Spot,Stripette(pronounced Stripe-ette,I was 6 when I named her),Winnifred,Gertrude,Fern,Dottie,
and Lillian.

Too funny! I have 11 hens named: Henrietta, Hennifer, Big Bertha, Winifred, Princess Leia, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Perty, Chickletta, Pooh Bear and Olive

I have 2 chicks I named after one of my Favorite Books! Feyre and my cockerel is Rhysand!

Hens:
Odette, Odile, Emily, Midnight, Francis, Forever, and Always.
Roosters: Prince, Chanticleer (after the character), Richard, Lancelot, Arthur, (you can see a theme here?) and the most inappropriately named chicken: Robin
Ooh good names! I may just steal "Forever and Always"

Beth and Rose are the originals of my happy flock and are somewhere around five years old. Spicy Ginger (orange band), Zesty Lemon (yellow band), Ivy Brown (green band), and Morning Glory (white band) are not quite one year old. They are such joy and are happily taking a break from laying at this time (lol).

I give hens names after characters, plants or people I love (Tauriel, Daisy, Nicolette, etc.), I tried that for roosters (Aragorn, Paganini), and they ended up mean. Now the rule is to name roosters simply, but usually with a theme for each group, and occasionally a lineage theme, to help my family remember them (Elrond and Thranduil, for example).
