Names

My current batch of chicks I'm holding off on forced names until they are pullets and their personality and looks are more solidified. A few of them have nicknames that come naturally like Behemoth (one chick is outrageously large and yet she is the least competitive of them all), and the nicknames might stick, but probably not.

My first batch of chicks I named one of them "Harmony", thinking that she was going to be a sweet, gentle hen. Then she became the matriarch hen and gave me many scratches and pecks whenever I reached for her eggs, and she also developed Sauron eyes. Somehow she kept that name and I never came up with a new one for her, she was a beautiful hen otherwise.

A chick from my second batch of chicks had a nut-themed name, Chestnut when she was young, then later on Hazelnut... and then when she was an adult her name was Rumplestiltskin because she turned out to be the ugliest chicken I'd ever laid eyes on, lol. I thought I would get a cute ameraucana like my previous one, instead she had no feathery fluffy beard, it was bald and she had... hair... growing there instead. Like a human beard. Another chick from the same brood was named Banana.... but then she grew up to be bald and would not make chicken sounds, would yell and mumble to herself, like an old man, she became Satur (named after bald peasant man in a Spanish TV show)... Then lastly there was the black sexlink. She grew to be ugly too and would lose all of her feathers when she molted, effectively becoming a naked chicken. I named her Sebastian. They all laid a lot of eggs and had no health problems but they were the ugliest batch of chickens I had ever raised in my life and I was not prepared to make any name for them as chicks that would stick.

Sorry for the long paragraphs but I have so many stories with naming chickens, it's always exciting and surprising.
