Narrowing it down...

The one with the air cell on the other end, you did turn that one over, didnt you? You see how awful Lexie's eggs are to tell. I even candle before deciding which is the "big" end and sometimes can't see the aircell, even then.

Yup, I leaned the two up against the therm since they kind of had a upside down start.

Oh, I meant to say I found another of Lexie's with the air cell on opposite end. lol Thats why I say two. Boy, its easy to see the air cell when they get this far along. I also got a candler in the mail, even tho its a cheap one, its easier to tell whats going, with seeing the air cell, etc.
Also found the other egg from the friend that had the free floating air cell, and tossed it, it had no development, but also didnt smell. I had seen it previously, then couldnt find it again til last nite. lol
So four of hers were bad from the start. I think all the others are good. Will have to really sniff things over before I shut the bator up for the last three days.
Down to 22 eggs and Day 16 is today! Getting down to the nitty gritty! I never have seen movement, but afraid to candle to long on any of them, as I read it it can kill them if you do. So I wanna see one move or kick and never have! Arghh! I can see differences in different eggs and wonder if that shows the dif between good and bad. If I was experienced I am sure I could tell. I can tell the easy ones. Cant tell the difference of whether some that look like blobs and the ones that totally fill up the egg and seem solid, which ones would be good on those? Or are the solid ones, just further along than the ones that are dark blobs? lol
The silkie/turken ones have very weird air cells, but I have read that is common.
Keep your fingers crossed for my hatch!

Here's a bunch of pics of Day 16 and at the bottom a bunch of pics of the way they should NOT look. Sometimes, it's hard to see why they say that, but take a good look anyway. You should be able to see a tiny bit of veining closer to the aircell and have the bottom dark, filled with the embryo. Not long now, Jill!

Hmm, I sure can't tell a good egg from a bad one

Got my fingers crossed still.

Bet you can't wait till your new chicks get to be buddies with your older ones

I think your older dominant one is a more aggressive breed then my chickens... I could be wrong.

One more thing, when you go to integrate them, i'm going to require frequent updates.
I'm looking forward to it not being my turn

Oh, Steve.... you are so mean! I am not sure which one is dominant, tho! They are really more 'buddies', I guess, since they are only two. I do know Red really doesnt give a hang if Fussy is there or not, I mean she likes the company, but no biggie. Fussy is VERY dependent on Red. If she doesnt see her, she panics, and runs around lookin for her. But she does the same with me. lol Thats why I can free range them in the evening, Fussy follows me like a puppy still to this day so it keeps them very well behaved. I mean I have to be out there with them, so its supervised free ranging, but still they sure love playing out there and I love watching them.

Red doesnt follow me, the only way I can control her is with food and that doesnt always work.

Oh, and my first EGG today! Aug 31st, tried to get pics but went to the store and their digital machine was broken!

Its greenish/blue, and so small. I was so happy, I grabbed her up and told her how wonderful she was. She ate it up for about 30 seconds then jumped out of my arms and said "Enuff of that now!".

Will post on your thread when I get them up.

Cynthia, I agree with Steve, I really cant tell on those photo's the good from the bad on many. Just not experienced enuff. Thanks for the pics tho, I look them over carefully, I wished they gave a description of WHY it was bad on those. Yep, its getting soooo close! I think I will sniff them all very carefully when I close the bator up on that 18th day just to make sure nothing smells off. I guess I should stop turning tomorrow night or Sunday mornin and get that humidity up.

I know, i'm bad cause I want others to share in my misery.

I think my misery is a product of my paticular situation though, i'm sure things will be quite different for you.

Yup, pretty soon I will have to up the humidity and close er up.

Can anyone tell me, do you stop turning right at Day 18 or at the END of day 18? lol Also, should I take out the plugs on the vent holes, or leave em plugged, how do the chicks breathe or get oxygen if you dont have them open. On the other hand, how do you get the humidity way up if you have them open? lol Man, I shoulda asked this a while back.

And my temps are driving me crazy, since its cooled down the temps dont want to maintain steady. Not bad, but a lot more variation than I would like, after having so little variation this whole time.

And Cyn, thanks for the congrats on my first egg, I guess she thought my birthday present could wait a week.

And for my observers, keep your fingers crossed for me.
