Natural Grit

A neighbor who has chickens & chicks was telling me she uses her driveway sand/grit for her chickens grit and never buys the stuff in the store. I thought that was a little wild, but Im clueless on chickens.. Are their natural grits chickens would eat around your home or do ou always need to add it to their feed once they start eating other yummies like bugs!

I have never bought grit for my chicks or chickens. They get what they need from free ranging and just scratching around in their run.
