You can also you Pyrethrum based sprays. That too is all natural and works great.

Wood ash and DE help control numbers at best, but pyrethrin will kill them. Needs to be reapplied in 10 - 14 days to kill hatching eggs, and applied to their environment, and the litter replaced. Pyrethrin is made from a certain type of daisy. I've rarely been able to buy it except mixed with permethrin, which is an insecticide, not natural, but apparently a lot less toxic of an insecticide than Sevin.

ddawn,

You should be able to find pyrethrum based sprays pretty easily in south Georgia.

It is used to spray Cotton for Boll Weevil.

I've use an old tractor tire filled with creek sand and wood ash for years. I pull fresh Juniper greens pulled off with gloves occasionally in the coop and nest boxes.

Thank you for the idea's.. Does wood ash get rid of them effeciently?

What's the diff between pyrethrum and pyrethrin? I find all kinds of pyrethrin on Amazon and it says it's natural and made from the same plant as pyrethrum. Also, how do you use this directly on the bird? I know you dust sevin on them... since this is liquid, do you use it like a dip?

how can you tell if your chickens have lice? I dont handle my chickens a lot, so Im usually not close enough to actually see the lice.... what are the signs?
