Nature on PBS has episode tonight on Red Fox

Just watched the last of this, only got to 36:00 before and something called me away.
The urban fox thing was bittersweet.
A researcher being able to see the group dynamics is great,
but the fact that these animals are artificially sustained by people intentionally feeding them sure skews some numbers....some of those fox were fat.
Reminds me of folks feeding raccoons here...both stick in my craw.
...and no, chicken keeping/killing was not included in the urban 'study'.
Interesting show but mostly pretty 'playing with the camera' as my Dad would have said.

Have had a fox in my yard for several years. I can tell because he has mis-matched fur that maybe grew in funny after injury or disease. He must be good at dodging cars,
people have some free ranging LARGE dogs, and coyotes aplenty. Our area is basically surrounded by forest preserves but, I've seen him most often going through neighbors yards.

Surprised - well both of us once - I was heading through the narrow space between my house & neighbors and he was heading toward me. He recovered faster, swapped ends and flew over my fence and then into the yard behind me. Was very lucky their Staffordshire Terrier was NOT outside.

Once he was entertaining another fox (looked feminine ??) but never saw any kits later.
:(
Bet you jumped when you saw him!

I see predators mostly at night. There have been a few times if I have had to go out for any reason, that I have met up with one (possum, skunk, fox) so now I make some kind of noise so usually the critters will take off. I do have a yard light that come on at dusk and goes off at dawn. This one shows up most every night.
