What camera do you use to take these photos? I've been trying to capture photos of lighting and its hard.

Nikon D610, but any DSLR can get the job done. The key is long exposures that look underexposed (dark) when there's no lightning going off. That instant of bright flash will help even out the overall exposure when you get a bolt. You also have to kind of adjust your exposure to suit the storm as you shoot.

These are f/3.5 for 8 sec at ISO 400 and f/4 for 10 sec at ISO 250, respectively.

I do! I actually just released 2 black swallowtails today, and I will be releasing a monarch as soon as it dries off. I still have 7 black swallowtail chrysalides that will hatch soon.
