Navel?

Where is a chicks navel? I have been trying to get the poo off my week old chicks butts and there is a spot that gets poo on it and yesterday when I got the poo off there was a red, raw looking spot, it looked like it was gonna bleed but didn't. Now today that spot has poo on it again and I'm afraid to mess with that area on any of the chicks now.

For the first 2 or 3 days, there is a navel-like scab on the lower part of the belly, where one might expect the vent to be. However, the vent is right under the tail, not at all underneath the chick. It's pretty obvious and puckery.
When cleaning, only focus on the vent area. Don't try to remove crusted poop or other substances from the belly. They are too vulnerable in that area.
