Hi we are a family of new chicken owners and we currently live in NC. We had 7 hens but recently lost one. Now we have six, three are older pullets, and three are just two months old. We are extremely new to the chicken scene and we really enjoy it. We love our girls, and we are super appreciative of their gift of eggs. Thank you for having us here and looking forward to connecting with like minded chicken owners.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Sorry for your loss. What happened?
Hi,

She was a Rhode Island Red. She had blood in her stool, on her eggs, and one day was standing in the corner of their run, lethargic, not eating, not drinking, and not acting her normal run around sassy number two of the flock self. She was diagnosed with coccidiosis. It took her life pretty quickly. Mainly because I am a new momma and had no idea what to do with her. I am still shocked and sad. I have learned so much because of her diagnosis and want to do everything to prevent this from happening to my other ladies. We have three rhode island reds, one austra white, one barred plymouth rock, and one black ameraucana. I love them with all my heart. Their names are Rotisserie, Cutlet, Patty, Lilly Pop, Pom Pom, and Posie. Nugget was our lady girl that passed. I am so happy to be here and to be part of this wonderful group.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard but it's how we all learn usually, the hard way. :hugs

If you haven't seen our Learning Center yet, there you can find articles about any subject you'd like to learn more about.

It takes time to learn all of the different intricacies chickens can have, and some folks can raise chickens for years, never have an issue, and suddenly one strikes. We learn from our mistakes and they get a better life because of it.
